This is an essay I had to write for one of my online classes i'm taking called Personal Writing. I'm taking it during my winter intersession so it's only about a month long, which means assignments everyday! That's right, I have to write an essay at least 6 times a week. I kinda liked this one, it's a little random and I haven't written anything like it before. So enjoy and comment if you would like!
Why is it that people get depressed? Shouldn’t they realize that they are not feeling too good so they need to get out of the house and get some fresh air? Go run, get your blood pumping. You’re body will feel so much better if you run and stop dwelling on the negative in your life. According to MayoClinic.com, research has proven that only 30 minutes of exercise a day can dramatically improve depression symptoms. It may not cure it but it improves it immensely. Researchers are not sure how it all works but some evidence suggests that exercise raises the levels of certain mood-enhancing neurotransmitters in the brain. Exercise does a lot more for your body as well. “It increases feel-good endorphins, helps you sleep better, and releases tension on muscles.”
Another thing that works immensely is serving others. Rather than thinking about all that is wrong in your life, go find somebody else out in the world and see how much worse theirs may be. Now that may not sound right, but think about it. It works. Now take that person who has life harder than yours and find a way to make their day or week better. You will find a joy in doing this. Making someone else’s life better also makes yours better. Here is a fun fact, did you know that calling someone by name when saying hi to them can completely turn their day around? It is true. You are also more likely to get an effective and more positive response when using their name. Now look, that is a two way win!
These few points I have brought up may not completely cure depression. But that is not what my point is. My point is that people need to find a way to be happy. If you are not feeling so great about life then do something different! Make it more exciting, find joy in the little things. Sometimes life gets so busy that there is no time for great, exciting things. But there is always time for happiness. Dwelling on the negative never gets anybody anywhere. People need to relax and learn that sometimes it just is not worth it to get uptight over or upset about. The world we live in is full of mistakes, if we are all getting upset with little mistakes what is going to happen when big mistakes happen? Someone may have a heart attack!
This essay is a little random. It is not just about depression, exercise, or mood swings. It is just a reminder that we all need to take a chill pill and enjoy life. Life is wonderful and beautiful, enjoy it while you can.
